LUDINGTON — The Mason County Parent Coalition has received its first community donation toward its Ludington Splash Pad Fund, a project the group has been working on since last fall. The group initially came up with the idea for a splash pad last summer during the Love Ludington and Mason County mini grant contest. The idea was one of the top vote receivers and was awarded $500.
The Todd and Julie Schrader Family Fund has donated $5,000 to kick off the group’s major fundraising efforts which, along with the $500 grant, will go toward the development and implementation of a splash pad in the city of Ludington. The group also plans to provide a 1-2 year maintenance fund to the city once the pad is built.
The group’s goal is to raise $40,000 to build a 25-foot by 25-foot splash pad with the location not yet decided and dependent upon approval of by Ludington city council.
Splash pads are becoming more popular, with locations all over Michigan including Grand Haven, Holland and Flint.
The group is actively seeking additional donors for the project. All donations will be held in safekeeping through a fund with the Community Foundation for Mason County. For more information, contact Lexi Alvesteffer at mloparentliaison@gmail.com or 231-425-7768.
