LUDINGTON – A workshop for adult writers of all abilities will be offered by Westside Writers Gang through Ludington Area Center for the Arts on Saturday, April 26. Memoir Writing Through Memorabilia will meet from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the arts center and culminate with participants reading their memoirs at 7 p.m. that evening at The Bookmark.
The one-day event is limited to eight participants whose $40 fee will include all supplies, snacks, and lunch. Writers will compose short pieces of several hundred words based on memories of treasured objects.
Linda Sandow, instructor, plans to use Dawn Raffel’s book “The Secret Life of Objects” as a springboard. Participants are asked to bring at least two small mementos such as childhood treasures, photos, jewelry, awards, ceramics, recipes or anything else that is easy to carry.
“We’ll look at Dawn’s examples and my own and go from there,” Sandow said. ” Each person will walk away with a piece of writing that is autobiographical in nature and, hopefully, will be inspired to continue this as a way of preserving the past.”
Space in the workshop is limited and registration is necessary. To register, visit LACA at 107 S. Harrison Street in downtown Ludington or call 231-845-2787. LACA winter hours are Thursday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Registration ends on April 12 or when the workshop is filled.
