LUDINGTON – Next up in the Main Stage Series at Ludington Area Center for the Arts is Fantasia Ballet Folklorico on Saturday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the LACA Performance Hall.
Fantasia Ballet Folklorico is a group based in Lansing made up of as many as 30 dancers who present traditional folk dances from different regions of Mexico in a colorful array of costumes. This group is focused on motivating young adults to develop discipline, self-esteem, respect and an understanding of the Hispanic culture. Fifteen dancers will be performing for the evening at LACA.
Ballet folklorico is simply Spanish for folk dance. Mexico’s modern folk dance is a blending of elements from the country’s indigenous and European heritage. Many traditional dances are rooted in religious practices but, over the centuries, have come to represent the identity of peoples of certain regions of Mexico. Dance is one area of Mexican culture that is conserved and promoted in terms of establishing Mexico’s national identity. It is an important aspect of Mexican American community life within the United States.
Fantasia Ballet Folklorico will be performing Saturday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the LACA Performance Hall.
