LANSING — State Representative Ray Franz (101st District) of Onekama has announced a bill in the Michigan House of Representatives naming a portion of M-116 in honor of Michigan State Police Trooper Paul Butterfield.

House Bill 5257 was read in committee for the second time Tuesday and will now be sent to the full house for consideration. Fittingly, the bill was in committee while a jury was deciding the fate of the man who killed Trooper Butterfield.

The section that is being proposed as the Trooper Paul K. Butterfield II Memorial Highway is from the Lincoln River, just outside of the Ludington city limits to the Sable River, just outside the day use area of the Ludington State Park.

A press release is expected Wednesday with more details.
