SCOTTVILLE — Garbage bags will be going on sale this week in the City of Scottville. Beginning March 11 Scottville residents will need to purchase the special bags in order to use the city’s refuse system.
Bags can be purchased at City Hall beginning Wednesday and at the Scottville Wesco gas station beginning Thursday. The price will be $6 for a package of 13 gallon bags and $12 for a package of 30 gallon bags. The bags can be bought individually at city hall, as well.
City Manager Amy Williams said that once March 11 arrives, the waste hauler will be instructed to pick up trash in the designated city bags. The bags will either be green or blue and will have “Scottville” printed on them.
The city had a bag purchase policy from the early 1990s until about five years ago. Curbside recycling will still remain the same.
In order to compensate for a negative balance in the refuse budget, the city commission recently approved the new procedure.
