Former Jewelry store employee sentenced for embezzlement

LUDINGTON — A former employee of Closson’s Jewelry was sentenced today for embezzling from the downtown Ludington business. Renee Lyne Hansen, 47, of Ludington was appeared in 51st Circuit Court where she received a sentence of up to one year in the Mason County jail, serving six months up front. Earlier this year she pleaded guilty to embezzling almost $100,000 from the store.

She was ordered to pay restitution of $83,000 to JoAnn Tiel, owner of the business; she paid $30,000 on Tuesday with the remaining $53,000 over a 60 month period following her jail sentenced.

From October 2010 to March 2013 Hansen stole over $99,000 from the Tiel family’s business.
