James B. Storm age 86 of Hamlin Lake, Ludington, MI passed away November 23, 2013 at Hackley Great Lakes Specialty Hospital in Muskegon, MI. He was born June 19, 1927 in Parr, Indiana son of Reverend Erick A. and Gertrude E. (Strauch) Storm.
Jim grew up in Onekama, MI as a boy and attended Onekama Grade School and later moved to Auburn, MI where he attended Handy High School. He joined the U.S. Army on March 16, 1946 and served in the occupation of Japan as communications specialist. After his discharge from the service he attended trade school and became a successful tool and die maker. He and is second wife, Fae owned and operated Kasper Industries in Flint, MI until they retired in 1992. After Jim retired, he traveled the world with Fae until she passed away in 1999. He loved to entertain his friends and family. Jim was a mentor to many, and loved by all who knew him. His cabin on Indian Pete Bayou had an open door policy where friends and family gathered daily and it was the site of a never-ending fish fry. There was always a cribbage board ready to go and he recently took up Wii bowling. To this date he holds the neighborhood record with a perfect 300 game. He was truly a wonderful person who will be sadly missed. Jim had a great way of making everyone feel loved and important. He was a member of the American Legion Post 76, a life member of the Custer Gold Bar VFW Post, the Walleye Association, Hamlin Lake Society, Optimist Club of Ludington, Fin and Feather Club, and the Ludington Boat Club. Jim was an avid outdoorsman who traveled the world hunting, fishing and enjoyed woodworking in his pole barn. His favorite saying in life was “Everything is subject to change” and he taught us all to go with the flow and enjoy each and every day.
He is survived by his children: Keith (Fei) Storm, John (Lisa Marshall) Storm, Libby (Mike) Witcher, his siblings: Harvey (Linda) Storm, Robert (Mary) Storm, Marilyn ( Bud) Branson, several grandchildren, one great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, and many very dear close friends who were like family.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, wife Fae, and his brother, Eugene Storm.
The Funeral Service for Jim will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the United Methodist Church of Ludington with Pastor Dennis Bromley and Pastor B. Douglas Niemi officiating. Military Rites will be under the auspices of the Ludington American Legion Edwin H. Ewing Post 76. Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church for visitation from 10:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of your choice.
