Mason County Press is growing and we are in need of correspondents to help us provide even more stories about life here in Mason County. We want to expand our news coverage by reporting on what’s happening in the townships and in the schools. The ideal candidate(s) should have an interest in those areas and a general understanding of how government and/or education systems operate. The person(s) should have good writing skills and an ability to be objective about their reporting. He/she needs to also be committed, consistent and punctual. Must own a smart phone and have access to a computer and the Internet. Journalism experience is ideal but not necessary.
The beats we want covered include:
– Education: Mason County Central, Ludington, Mason County Eastern and West Shore Community College. This may include covering board meetings, depending on agenda items but will also include general feature coverage. This does not include covering sporting events.
– Townships: Meeting coverage of Amber, Hamlin and Pere Marquette townships with follow-up stories as well. There may also be coverage in other townships as well.
-While there are some funds available to compensate for work, we are a small operation that exists to serve the needs of the community. In other words, you won’t get rich writing for us but you’ll get enough to cover your time.
If you are interested in any of the above beats please send an email to Rob Alway, editor-in-chief: editor@masoncountypress.com.
