Garrett Lake

The funeral for Garrett Ian Lake is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Pere Marquette Township. The 11-year-old was killed Friday morning when the Chevrolet Blazer SUV he was riding in hit a patch of ice on U.S. 10, causing it to leave the roadway and flip over. His sister, Jordan Lake, 16, was driving the vehicle and airlifted to Helen Devos Children’s Hospital where she underwent surgery to her back Saturday. Their sister, McKenna, 13, was transported to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital where she was treated and released.

A fund is currently being established at West Shore Bank to raise money for the Lake family to help with expenses. Heather VanderHaag, a friend of the family, said with the blessing of the family, she is working with West Shore Bank to set up the Lake Family Benefit Fund. VanderHaag is the only person authorized by the family to raise funds for the family. She said while other people have good intentions, there needs to be one centralized area where the funds are placed. She is also considering opening a PayPal account so online donations can be made into the account.

The account should be active by the middle of the week. In the meantime, donations may be sent to the Lake Family Benefit Fund, 1045 E. Mavis Road, Scottville, MI 49454. Questions may be directed to hmvanderhaag@gmail.com or through private message on Facebook. Once the fund is established, donors will be able to deposit directly at any West Shore Bank branch.

Those wishing to sends cards and words of encouragement to Jordan, may send to Jordan Lake, Spectrum Health, Helen Devos Children’s Hospital, 100 Michigan St., NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
