Grant Twp. and Free Soil/Meade fire departments were dispatched to 11651 Birchwood Dr. in Manistee Forest Pines Estates mobile home park about 1 a.m. Wednesday morning. Fire Chief Ron Melchert said the front of the trailer was where the majority of flames were when his department arrived.

The West Shore Chapter of American Red Cross was called in to assist the family and emergency crews. A Red Cross volunteer said that one adult along with a 5-year-old and 8-year-old were living in the house. An ambulance from Life EMS was later dispatched because the home owner and his children were complaining of smoke inhalation.
