Fire destroys house on Lincoln, pets saved

house fire 4372 N Lincoln RdHAMLIN TWP. — Fire destroyed a house at 4372 N Lincoln Rd. Saturday night around 11:30 p.m. Nobody was home at the time of the fire. Mason-Oceana 911 was alerted of the fire through an alarm company, the result of both burglar and smoke alarms going off.

Mason County Sheriff’s Office deputies were the first on scene. They said the house was completely engulfed in flames when they arrived. Sgt. Oscar Davila said they were unclear at the time if there was any foul play. Hamlin Twp. Fire Chief Steve Vandervest said he did not know where the fire may have started. He said he intended to call in a fire marshal to investigate.

The homeowners cat and dog both managed to get out of the home. The owners’ name was not immediately available.

The 25-year-old house, which sat back in the woods on the east side of Lincoln Road south of Victory Drive, was 3,413 square feet with five bedrooms and four bathrooms. According to the website zillow.com it is worth an estimated $280,000.

Hamlin Twp. Fire Department was assisted by Pere Marquette Twp., Ludington, Scottville and Riverton fire departments. Firefighters were still on the scene at 1 a.m., but the fire was mostly extinguished.
