VICTORY TOWNSHIP – West Shore Community College, in co-production with the Manistee Civic Players, announces a free open workshop for “The Rocky Horror Show” on Monday, August 19, at 7 p.m. at the Center Stage Theater.
“The workshop will give auditioners a great chance to partake in ‘Rocky Horror’ character building activities,” says Rick Plummer, director of the production. “They’ll get a first-look inside our production, learning choreography and character specific songs that will be used later at auditions.”
“The Rocky Horror Show” tells the story of sweethearts Brad Majors and Janet Weiss who, on a dark and stormy night, stumble upon the castle of the stiletto-wearing scientist, Dr. Frank-n-Furtur. There they are subjected to dancing Transylvanians, a muscled laboratory creation named Rocky, and the doctor’s plans for world domination.
“‘Rocky Horror’ is the queen of cult musicals,” says Scott Emelander, vocal coach for the show. “The score is full of catchy songs like ‘Dammit, Janet,’ ‘Hot Patootie,’ and, of course, ‘The Time Warp’.”
Auditions will be held Mon., August 26, in WSCC’s Center Stage Theatre and Tues., August 27, at the historic Ramsdell Theatre in Manistee – both at 7 p.m.
“Workshop attendees should be prepared for a night of fun and a chance to get to know the team behind this cult classic production,” says accompanist, Jaime Pepple. “Stilettos are optional, of course.”
The musical will play at the Ramsdell Theatre on October 11, 12, 13 and 18, 19, 20. Tickets are available by contacting the WSCC box office at 231-843-5507, or the Manistee Civic Players at 231-723-9948. Tickets can also be purchased by visiting www.manisteecivicplayers.org.
