Ox roast and carnival will take place during festival

August 6, 2013

SCOTTVILLE — The Scottville Main Street program has announced today that it will be bringing a carnival into Scottville during the Harvest Festival. It will also hold an ox roast, a tradition that dates back to 1910.

The announcement stated: “Scottville area businesses, Scottville Main Street and the City of Scottville are happy to announce that Schmidt Amusements will be returning this year to provide downtown Scottville with a carnival for Scottville Harvest Festival, September 12-14, 2013. The tradition of the Ox Roast will also continue Thursday night, September 12, 2013.”

Donations are still needed to offset continuing these traditions. WMOM FM 102.7 will lead a fundraising campaign for the Ox Roast beginning tomorrow, August 7, 2013. If interested in placing a monetary donation or a donation of time please contact Main Street Manager Heather Landis at (231) 757-4729or Richard Cox of Cox’s Sales & Service at (231) 757-2275.

The Harvest Festival is organized by the Ludington and Scottville Area Chamber of Commerce. Over the weekend, it was announced that the ox roast and carnival would not be part of the parade because of financial reasons.
