GRANT TWP. — A 67-year-old East Lansing man drowned in Lake Michigan Saturday afternoon. Emergency crews were called to the Lake Michigan shoreline in the Nordhouse Dunes around 4 p.m. Bruce Henderson was swimming with friends when he went underwater. After approximately 20 minutes in the water he was pulled out by one of his friends.
Witnesses on the beach attempted CPR until Grant Township Fire Department medical first responders arrived, continued revival efforts and transported Henderson off the beach to a Life EMS ambulance. Henderson was transported to West Shore Hospital in Manistee where he was pronounced dead.
In addition to Grant Twp. Fire Dept. and Life EMS, the Mason County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Forest Service also responded.
This was the first drowning to occur in Mason County this year.
