VICTORY TWP. — West Shore Community College will be hosting College for Kids 2013, August 5-9.
The five-day College for Kids, a hands-on opportunity to explore higher education through arts, sciences, communications and recreation in a day-camp atmosphere on the college campus, features 32 action-packed learning adventures designed for motivated learners grades 4 – 8.
Again this year, Seeking Ecology Education and Design Solutions Adventure Day Camp staff and students will be teaching, offering Underwater ROV Construction & Piloting and Bridge Building.
Other courses and activities include graphic communications, digital photography, arts, creative writing, health field exploration, building a business, science courses, acting, exploring space, web page creation, African/Caribbean based drumming and music, a variety of recreational activities, and more.
Full-day, week-long participants receive two, three-hour courses, and a College for Kids t-shirt for $130. Half-day week-long participants receive one, three- hour course, and a t-shirt for $75. Some scholarships are available by contacting the coordinator.
Students should bring a sack lunch or may purchase, in advance, lunch at the Beans & Bread café from a pre-established menu. To view the menu, visit the college web site and click on College for Kids.
To accommodate the schedule of working parents, students may be dropped off at the Recreation Center at 8:30 a.m. and should be picked up at the same location no later than 4 p.m.
Registration for College for Kids is underway through July 19. Early registration is suggested as most courses are limited to 15 participants.
