PERE MARQUETTE TWP. — A vehicle knocked down a power pole on South Pere Marquette Highway at the intersection of Iris Road about 3:30 p.m. According to Michigan State Police troopers on scene, the crash occurred when a vehicle attempted to turn left from Iris onto PM.
A man driving a Chevrolet S-10 pick-up was heading north when he attempted to swerve to avoid the Chrysler pulling into his lane. The Chevrolet then struck a Consumers Energy power pole, knocking out power. The pole landed on top of his vehicle.
Neither driver or the passenger in the Chrysler were injured but all were checked over by Life EMS personnel. Traffic had been temporarily re-routed until Consumers was able to arrive on scene, remove the power lines and restore power.
In addition to Life and MSP, Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Pere Marquette Fire Dept. and Ludington Fire Dept. responded.
