RIVERTON TWP. — The 20-year-old driver of a Ford Probe was transported by Life EMS ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Ludington following a two car crash at the intersection of Hawley and Morton roads Friday evening.
Riverton Twp. Fire Chief Joe Cooper said the car passed his Morton Road house — about a half mile south of the intersection — at a high rate of speed. The car appeared to have gone through the intersection heading north when it was t-boned by a Chevy Trailblazer heading west.
Cooper was the first emergency responded on scene. After evaluating the occupants of the Probe, he went to evaluate the occupants of the other vehicle. At that time, he said the Probe’s 17-year-old passenger fled the scene. After a short search the shirtless passenger was found in a nearby orchard. He was arrested for fleeing and obstruction and ticketed for minor in possession of alcohol. Mason County Sheriff’s deputies on scene said the driver will also be ticketed and may face charges. Both were local.
The occupants of the other vehicle were evaluated but uninjured. They were both from Clinton Twp., Mich. The driver was a 60-year-old man and the passenger was a 55-year-old woman.
The crash remains under investigation.
