LUDINGTON — Memorial weekend was very safe for travelers through Mason County. Sheriff Kim Cole reported that there were no traffic crashes during the weekend.
The sheriff’s office and Michigan State Police conducted increased traffic patrols along U.S. 10-31 between Ludington and Scottville throughout the weekend. The primary purpose of the increased patrols was to reduce crashes at the major intersections, some of which are considered among the most dangerous in Michigan based on the number of annual injury-resulting crashes.
Sheriff Cole said the joint enforcement team made 54 stops during the targeted times and issued 16 citations, seven by MSCO and nine by MSP. He said he was mostly pleased that the weekend was a safe and enjoyable one for motorists.
