LUDINGTON — Former Ludington Police Chief and current Ludington City Councilor Wally Taranko has announced that he intends to run for mayor.
“My vision for Ludington is to continue on the path we are on and to improve in areas that need improving,” Taranko said.
Taranko served on the Ludington Police Department for 32 years, was Mason County Emergency Management Director for five years and executive director the West Shore Chapter of American Red Cross for five years. He now serves as a volunteer government liaison for the Red Cross.
“I believe all of those areas have given me a well-rounded view of service to the community,” he said.
Taranko is the fifth person to take out a petition to run for mayor. Others include Ryan Cox, Kaye Ferguson Holman, Tom Rotta, A. Pete Engblade and David Kosla. Citizens have until 4 p.m. May 14 to turn in petitions for mayor and city council seats. Also up for election are council seats in the second, fourth and sixth wards. The August primary election is Aug. 6 and the general election is Nov. 5.
