Rock the Dock will celebrate Badger and United Way

LUDINGTON — The S.S. Badger begins its 2013 sailing season rather unceremoniously Monday at 9 a.m. Typically sailing begins a little later in May but commercial traffic means an earlier start. While passengers are welcome, amenities will be a little light for a few weeks.

But, on Friday, May 17, there will be a party as the official sailing season kicks off with a Rock the Dock celebration. The Badger will sail to Manitowoc, Wis. that morning and then return for a party fundraiser for United Way of Mason County.

The event, which will include music by Dutch Henry, a light menu, desserts and cash bar, is from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $15 per person and can be reserved by calling 800-841-4243.

Lynne Russell, executive director of United Way of Mason County, said the event is sponsored by Lake Michigan Carferry and Ludington Beverage. The event is also in observance of the Badger’s 60th anniversary.
