Barnett beats his dad’s track record

TRAVERSE CITY — Mason County Central track runner Chase Barnett set a new school record for the one mile race today at a meet in Traverse City. The previous record, 4-minutes, 18-seconds, was set in 1986 by Chase’s father, Jeff. That year the MCC boys’ track team went on to win the Class C state championship.

Chase beat his father’s record by three seconds.

“I’m very proud of him,” Jeff said.

Chase’s mother, Tracey, said they didn’t think today was going to be the day. Chase had been in fourth place and at the very last few seconds pulled it off.
