My view. By Rob Alway, Editor-in-Chief.
The addition of a third Manierre Dawson art piece at WestShoreCommunity College is a treasure that many do not even realize. As many of you know, I am an instructor of photography at WestShore. Four days a week I pass the Manierre Dawson Gallery at WestShore on my way to the classroom. Now, as I pass by, there will be three original pieces of art from one of this country’s premier abstract artists, a man who spent most of his adult life in RivertonTownship.
We are very blessed to have such a fine collection of Dawson originals right here in MasonCounty, especially since Dawson himself started the collection by donating the first piece in 1969.
Take time to visit the gallery, especially right now. Because not only does the gallery feature the works of a great 20th century artist, it also currently features fine art of some of the 21st century’s great artists, the present students of WestShoreCommunity College. The annual student art exhibit is currently underway. I watched some of my students work diligently preparing for this show over the past month. Next to the classroom I teach in is the art room. Those students also have been painting and drawing, preparing for the exhibit.
I am always amazed at the level of talent that our little college has. We have some wonderful artists and I am proud of each and every one of them. Please take time and visit this exhibition. You will not be disappointed.
