VICTORY TWP. – West Shore Community College will be roaring with laughter and rocking with music on Sunday afternoon, April 14, as the Four Bitchin’ Babes take the stage with their estrogen-infused mayhem and award winning songwriting in “Mid-Life Vices: a Musical Review.”
The 2 p.m. matinee performance will be in the Center Stage Theater on the WSCC campus.
“Mid-Life Vices” is a hysterical trilogy about men and women that refuse to act their age. Using their terrific talents, the four actor-singer-comediennes journal the lives and experiences of the baby boomer generation in songs and jokes. This is a celebration of “Whine, Women, and Song” with beautiful harmonies, drums, acoustic and electric guitars, piano, mandolins and bass.
“These four accomplished and seasoned performers come together taking turns in the spotlight filling it with whimsical songs and shtick, presenting the hippest and most luxurious girl group harmonies ‘evah!'” according to Dr. Rick Plummer, Director of the WSCC Performing Arts Series.
Playing their own guitars, bass, piano, Irish bodhran, mandolin, and ukulele, this hilarious renegade sorority of gal pals is composed of Sally Fingerett, Debi Smith, Marcy Marxer, Deirdre Flint. These accomplished actor-singer-comediennes use their elegant wit, sophisticated (never blue) stand-up humor, and enough bling to hypnotize the first five rows of any theater, creating an evening of wildly fun and raucous delight, Plummer adds.
According to the actors, this show lovingly examines everyone’s “mid-life crises” and our inherent need for “mid-life vices.” With songs that wink at our neurosis, passions and misdeeds, the babes take a stab at exhausted perfectionists, organized scatterbrains, boys and their wheels, and of course a universal passion for low lights, Facebook, and cheese.
The Four Bitchin’ Babes are all very highly skilled in theater, each with over 20 years’ experience on stage and in the recording studio. The four babes fill the stage with beautiful harmonies, marvelous acting and a sense of side-splitting, intellectual humor.
“Not to give anything away, but I watched a little of the show online and found it to be hilarious. I definitely can’t wait to see the entire show, “says WSCC student, Ashley Seabolt.
Along with the newest member Marcy Marxer are long standing members, Sally Fingerett, one of the founding babes, who plays the piano, guitar and bass; Debi Smith, winner and nominee of several Washington area music awards, who plays guitar, piano, and Irish bodhran (drum); and Dierdre Flint who plays guitar, bass and piano.
“These women take every day life and make it much more tolerable by allowing the audience to completely leave the cruel world behind and drown it out with the tug at your heartstrings,” says WSCC student and box office employee, Katie Menger. “This all wrapped up in a neat package by the immense musical ability of each and every one of them. With that, I would say this show is going to be great.”
