LUDINGTON — Sgt. Kim Cole will become Mason County undersheriff, effective Friday. Cole is the sheriff-elect and for the past three weeks has been serving as a desk sergeant, learning administrative duties of the department. In a department email, Sheriff Jeff Fiers announced Cole would be replacing Undersheriff Tom Trenner, who is retiring effective Friday.

Trenner has served as undersheriff for the past eight years, first serving under Sheriff Laude Hartrum then serving Fiers since 2008.

Replacing Cole as sergeant will be Deputy Steve Hansen. Hansen is a 1987 graduate of Mason County Central High School and is a long-time veteran of the department. He has served in many positions at the department, including detective, marine patrol and the State, Sheriffs, Chiefs Enforcement Narcotics Team (SSCENT).

Earlier this month, Fiers announced Deputy Oscar Davila will also be promoted to sergeant, replacing Sgt. Jody Hartley who will become Cole’s undersheriff effective Jan. 1, 2013.

Cole has told the MCP that he will be attending sheriff school the first two weeks of December.
