SCOTTVILLE – Dr. Lewis Squires, a doctor of chiropractic and chairman of the Mason County Board of Commissioners, was recently awarded the Michigan Association of Chiropractors’ Kirk A. Lee, DC, Community Champion Award. Dr. Squires is the inaugural recipient of the award, which will be given yearly to a Michigan chiropractor “in recognition and appreciation of their unselfish commitment to serving others and their community.”
“Dr. Squires truly personifies the spirit of this award, and it was our great honor and privilege to bestow the inaugural ‘Kirk A. Lee, DC, Community Champion Award’ to Dr. Lewis Squires,” said MAC President Dr. Dan Spencer.
A graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic, Dr. Squires began serving the community of Scottville in July 1978. His dedication to that community is shown by his decade on the Mason County Board of Commissioners, culminating in the last two years, when he has served as Chair. In 1997, Dr. Squires was given the “Public Servant Award” by Mason County Central High School. In 1998, he was named the Scottville Area Chamber of Commerce “Citizen of the Year.”
A former president of the Michigan Chiropractic Society (a forerunner organization of the MAC), Dr. Squires has previously been honored with the MCS “Chiropractor of the Year” award. He has served as the Michigan Delegate to the American Chiropractic Association since 2004. He has also previously been named “Outstanding Alumni President” by the Palmer International Alumni Association, and he is a Fellow of the International College of Chiropractors.

Earlier this year, Michigan’s chiropractic community lost a dear friend and legend, Dr. Kirk A. Lee of Albion. Dr. Lee was as active in his local community as he was in the community of chiropractors. His dedication to his community and profession was truly inspiring, In tribute, the Michigan Association of Chiropractors established a new yearly award, the Kirk A. Lee, DC, Community Champion Award.
