WSCC blood drive Thursday

October 21, 2012

VICTORY TOWNSHIP – West Shore Community College will hold a blood drive for the American Red Cross on Thursday, October 25.

Blood donations will be accepted between 9 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. in the Technical Center Atrium on the campus at 3000 North Stiles Road.

In order to donate blood, you must be 17 years old, in good health and weigh at least 110 pounds. While there is no upper age limit for donors, some medical conditions, medical histories, prescription drugs and recent travel to some foreign countries limit donor eligibility. Donors are reminded to drink plenty of water and eat iron rich foods before donating.

According to the American Red Cross, more than 38,000 blood donations are needed every day. Blood is needed for emergencies and for people who have cancer, blood disorders, sickle cell disease and other illnesses. One donation can save up to three lives.
