Phillips trial postponed again

February 16, 2012

LUDINGTON — MasonCountyPress.com has learned that the trial for Sean Michael Phillips, accused of kidnapping his infant daughter, has been adjourned. The trial was scheduled for Feb. 22.

According to reports, Mason County Prosecutor Paul Spaniola announced the postponement Wednesday, citing a conflict in the defense attorney’s schedule.

Phillips was arrested in June following the alledged kidnapping of his daughter, Katherine Shelbie-Elizabeth Phillips, also known as “Baby Kate.”

Hundreds of emergency officials and volunteers spent countless hours searching various areas of Mason County for Kate.

Phillips, 21, of Victory Township, is charged with one count of unlawful imprisonment, punishable by up to 15 years in prison, and one count of parental kidnapping, punishable by up to a year and a day in jail.

He has been lodged in the Mason County Jail since the day of the alledged kidnapping.

No new date has been set for the trial.
