The Mason County Sheriff’s Office is starting to release details on how law enforcement agencies were able to locate and arrest Mark Allan McCallum, who is charged with parental kidnapping.
The 52-year-old Hamlin Township resident was wanted by law enforcement after he failed to return his 4-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter Thursday to their mother, in agreement to the couple’s divorce decree.
According to a press release from the MCSO, Mason County detectives obtained information that McCallum could be at several motels in the Key West area over the weekend.
That information led to his arrest and the safe return of the children. Following-up on leads from Mason County, Monroe County, Fla. sheriff’s detectives discovered a stolen vehicle traced back to Mason County. It was determined McCallum stole the vehicle and subsequently fled to Florida, according to the press release.
The report further stated the children appeared to be safe and are expected to be picked up by their mother sometime today or tomorrow.
