SCOTTVILLE — The merchants of Scottville are hoping winter will stick around for at least a few more weeks. Scottville Main Street will hold its first Blizzard Blast on Saturday, Jan. 28 downtown.

The event will begin with a pancake breakfast from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the senior center, followed by a chili cook-off and quilt show from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Horse pulled wagon rides, ice sculpting, games, animal fur and skull display and living windows will be featured throughout the day.

A snowman building contest begins at 9 a.m. The grand prize is a 10-child splash party at the Best Western Inn splash park in Pere Marquette Township.

A ping-pong ball drop, called the Snowball Drop, will take place in the center of town at 1:30 p.m. Linda Holden, of the Main Street promotions committee (and co-owner of Hold

en’s Home Emporium) said the snowball drop is for children ages 5-12. Each ball will have a number and will coordinate with prizes. When the balls are dropped from a fire truck, the kids will scramble to pick up as many as they can. Adults will not be allowed to participate.

The Scottville Optimist Club will host Blizzard Bingo from 2 to 8 p.m.

The only event not taking place downtown will be a demolition derby at the Riverside Park at 3 p.m.

Hot chocolate and hot dogs will be served throughout the day downtown.

“This will just be a fun day for the entire family,” Holden said. “It’s a great way to get together and to get out of the house and let off some steam in the middle of winter.”
