LUDINGTON — Albrianna Huck, 14, of Ludington died Thursday evening as a result of drowning in Lake Michigan. Emergency crews spent nearly 2 1/2 hours searching for Huck after she was reported missing from Stearns Park beach at 7:40 p.m.
Barnett said Huck was initially reported missing by a family member of Huck’s who had accompanied her and her brother to the beach.
“A thorough search was conducted of the entire beach and park area as well as other areas of interest provided by Albrianna’s family members,” Ludington Police Chief Mark Barnett said in a press release. “At 9:50 p.m. searchers were advised that a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew located someone on the shoreline waving at them. Land and marine personnel were directed to a location on the Lake Michigan shoreline in the area of 711 N. Lakeshore Dr. Upon their arrival they met individuals that located the victim in the water and had begun CPR. Searchers and first responders continued CPR on the victim while she was being transported to the Loomis Street boat ramp via U.C.S.G. boat and then on to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital via Life EMS ambulance. First responders continued to assist emergency department personnel in providing CPR in an effort to revive the victim.
“The family of the victim was directed to (the hospital) and were assisted by the Mason County Victim’s Assistance Unit. The victim was pronounced deceased at 11:20 pm at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital. Family was notified at that time.”
