College board appoints Ward as president.

VICTORY TOWNSHIP — The West Shore Community College Board of Trustees has appointed Scott Ward as the fifth president of the college. The board took action at its November 20 meeting and will review a contract at the December meeting.

Ward served as acting/interim president from September 2014 to July 2015, following the retirement of former president Charles Dillon and again as interim president, since June 2017, following the resignation of Dr. Kenneth Urban.

“It is a great honor and privilege to be asked to serve in this new role.” stated Ward. “During my interview in 2009, the last question President Dillon asked me was whether I believed that the West Shore Community College vision of becoming one of America’s premier community colleges was attainable. After eight years of working with our students, faculty, staff, the board of trustees and our amazingly supportive community, I believe even more strongly the answer is ‘yes.’ I look forward to working collaboratively with all groups to advance the WSCC vision.”

Ward has been employed at the college since August 2009, serving as the vice president of administrative services.  Prior to coming to the college, Ward was at the University of Wisconsin Marinette for eight years. From February 1993 to August 2001, he served in various positions at the University of Alaska Anchorage.

In December 1991, Ward earned a bachelor of science degree from Northern Michigan University where he graduated magna cum laude. He earned a master of business administration degree from the University of Alaska, Anchorage in 1996.  He is currently pursuing a doctoral degree from Liberty University.

“We welcome the expertise, experience, and leadership that Scott brings to the position. His results-oriented approach and ability to think strategically will play a pivotal role in the years ahead,” said Bruce Smith, chairman of the Board of Trustees.
