boat_fire_081714aLUDINGTON — Two boaters at a neighboring slip prevented what might have been a tragic situation Sunday night at Harborview Marina. They noticed smoke from the boat next to them and acted quickly, Ludington Fire Chief Jerry Funk said, by calling 911 and also grabbing a garden hose. Funk said the fire on Dock D was from wiring on the boat. He said the fire was mostly extinguished when firefighters arrived, which was only a few minutes after the call was paged out.

Funk said the man who extinguished the fire inhaled a little smoke and was checked out by paramedics from Life EMS ambulance. As a precaution, the Ludington Harbor Patrol boat was also called in.
